I have finally decided to take the leap. A few of you already know that greendesertcat.com has been online for a couple of weeks by now, but I hadn’t mentioned a word about it on Instagram. I was obviously worried that it would be ignored, as I am not very good at displaying and advertising myself. But today, I posted a little note and added the website to my Instagram profile details. Oh well, we shall see how that works.
With Christmas ornaments and creations popping up all over the creative web, I convinced myself to jump on the bandwagon and get to work on a moose! How Canadian of me 😊.
So here is Mr Moosie the Moose! Of course, like most of my animal creatures, he is quite a big fellow, approx. 36 inches (80 cm) tall. I had to enroll Bubbles the Clown and his new boots to prop him up! Mr Moosie has very long legs, trots around with the cutest hooves and pretty big antlers. He is so big, he will not be able to site on the mantelpiece with all the reindeer, elves and Christmas stockings, so he will definitely need a seat of his own!
I wasn’t really equipped with the proper materials to sew a moose, but I couldn’t resist. For the body, I needed something I could experiment with without wasting any of my precious linen, so I used some faux suede which had been sitting in my closet for years and ended up being the perfect fabric for this creature. For his antlers, I used a remnant of cuddle fleece, reinforced with ultra-firm Pellon one-sided fusible stabilizer and backed with foam stabilizer, then I stuffed the antlers with a bit of polyfill to give them more body. To stuff the whole moose, I used almost 1 kg of polyfil!
The construction of the moose is similar to that of my large bunnies, but I made the body a bit like a shirt: I first assembled the back and front units, then attached the arms to the armpits as if they were sleeves, instead of sandwiching the arms between the back and the front. The result is so cute! Hopefully, I will have a pattern for him next time I post something on the blog 😊
