Bird In A Box

Bird in a Box is the perfect Christmas ornament project for a quiet weekend. He isn’t your typical cookie cutter Christmas project, but he will certainly impress your family members and friends. You can sew him up with an assortment of Christmas fabric scraps, or you can make him from a fat eighth bundle of festive quilting cottons.

Bird in a Box is 3½” (9 cm) tall without the ribbon, but he can easily be made bigger by using a larger square template – the possibilities are endless! He will be the perfect companion to your Christmas decorations, definitely something different to boast about!

Materials

  • 1 fat eighth bundle of 8 assorted quilting cotton cuts (6 different cuts for the squares, 1 cut for the bird parts, 1 cut for the frames)
  • ¼ yard quilting cotton (for the ribbon)
  • Single-sided ultra firm fusible stabilizer (Pellon, or similar product)
  • Fusible fleece interfacing (for the bird parts)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Two small beads (for the eyes)
  • Embroidery thread (to attach the eyes)
  • Sewing thread
